ST LOUIS CARDINALS TO SHOWCASE CHICAGO COLLECTORS' SOSA AND
MCGWIRE MEMORABILIA IN MUSEUM EXHIBIT, SEPT. 10 - OCT. 15, 1999
Two Chicago
natives will be loaning their collection of memorabilia from the great home run
race of 1998 to the St. Louis Cardinals' Museum this fall. Collectors Dennis A. Jose
and sister Freddrika Kammer have put considerable time and resources in the past year into
the one-of-a-kind display which is know as the "Kings of Swing."
"It's a real delight to
have the management of the St. Louis Cardinals welcome two die-hard Cubs fans," jokes
Mr. Jose. "Fortunately for us, and the thousands of baseball fans who will
experience this exhibit, the Cardinals have enthusiastically agreed to the exhibit which
features Sammy Sosa prominently along with hometown hero Mark McGwire."
The multifaceted "Kings
of Swing" exhibit features colorful tickets for each game in 1998 in which Sosa or
McGwire hit home runs; autographed baseball cards from each of the pitchers who
surrendered a homer to either slugger and numerous pieces of Sosa and McGwire memorabilia.
"The inclusive nature of
the Kings of Swing exhibit sparked and maintained my interest in the yearlong process of
obtaining artifacts from over 30 states," says co-collector Ms. Kammer.
"This exhibit, and in a larger sense the 1998 march on Maris, crosses generational,
geographic and racial lines. The exhibit offers a window on the role sports play in
bringing diverse corners and cultures within America together."
The "Kings of Swing"
exhibit, which will be loaned to St. Louis, may be viewed by the media by calling the
contacts listed above."
